Natural Seaside Wedding

Thank you BRIDES for this feature on one of the happiest days of my life…

“Sometimes finding the person you’re meant to be with is as easy as finding the nose on your face. Kristian and Breegan met several years ago, and were immediately inseparable as best friends, attending events as each other’s “plus one” and spending time riding bikes on the beach. That was until, as Breegan puts it, “Maturity snuck up on us! We tilted our heads, looked at each other, and realized that our love had grown beyond friendship.”

Buck Mason featured “our friend, Charlie Curtis, is terrifying. He once killed and ate a rattlesnake while camping. He also owns The Rec Center cross-fit gym with his wife Erika in the Arts District, a minute shy of Downtown Los Angeles. When he’s not flipping tractor tires like Pogs, hauling ass on his Harley or dominating Cross-Fit competitions, Charlie’s with his son, Ace, who’s now a year and three months old. Charlie moved around the country a bunch before settling in the Arts district. “The goal was to build a close knit community in a part of the city that wasn’t so fitness saturated.” That was three and a half years ago before the neighborhood exploded in popularity. Charlie, Erica and Ace have done exceptionally well here. Baby Ace spends most of his time at the gym with his mom and dad, and clients bring their kids along too. “The best way to balance having a family and a business is to bring them together.” He appreciates the looseness of being his own boss. Besides lugging all the gear around, he says cross-fit prepared him for fatherhood because there’s no set routine, “You have to be ready for anything.”

Kelli…Fearless

Kelli…Fearless

When I tell people about my friend Kelli, “You know, the one with the African sons,” they always meet the statement with, “Wow, she sounds so incredible.” And she is! Her life is as impressive as it sounds. She has created a family in spite of no blood relation. Kelli has her sons living with her, as well as James’ sister and her two-year-old son. I walked into their home last night to take a photo and there was laughter, and yelling, and playing, and a pillow fight happening. It was the most familial scene I could think of.

If Kelli hadn’t been fearless three years ago, who knows where these boys would be? Who knows the life Kelli would have missed? Sometimes her entire house smells like small fish. And sometimes she is 5th in line for the bathroom. And sometimes she has to listen to African music videos playing on YouTube for hours at a time.

your recycling is poisoning the poor!

Business’ and individuals “donate” their broken computers to “kids in Africa” …because it is cheaper then disposing of them properly. (they also get a tax write-off) …The computers arrive to these schools …only to become toxic waste that the organizations are not equipped to discard of safely.

We export enough e-waste each year to fill 5126 shipping containers. If you stacked them up, they’d reach 8 miles high – higher than Mt Everest, or commercial flights.

Simply stated, we are solving our e-waste problem

by exporting it to poor countries around the globe.

In addition many electronics recyclers inside the US don’t actually recycle the electronics they collect. They can make more money by selling the old electronics to waste traders. These traders then send them to developing countries where health, safety, environmental laws, and citizens’ rights are very weak. Workers earn slave wages sifting trough the toxic rubble looking for salvageable goods.
