Being an interior designer apparently doesn’t get you much “clout” with your own kids. 🤔It seems they think my pink garage was a questionable choice. But, mom privilege means some things I do simply because I can. That’s good enough for me!

Being a homeschool hybrid family has its perks. A

Being a homeschool hybrid family has its perks. A good amount of the curriculum is left up to us. The kids get to pick a few classes and interests they would like to participate in, but some things are reserved for mom! My boys are both proving to be musically inclined—hence our music studio and custom DJ booth, but piano requires different skills.

Mastering the instrument can be a bit of a struggle because progress is slow, but it’s so good for brain development. Making kids stick to things that aren’t always fun and helping them to find joy and peace in it are great lessons to instill. Now, I often catch one of them sitting down enjoying playing the keys at random moments. It’s definitely confirmation of my choices.

I’d be lying if the designer in me isn’t cring

I’d be lying if the designer in me isn’t cringing just a tiny bit at the thought of messy, “style-challenged” teens living in my curated house in the future. 🥴
There IS a way around this dilemma, parents! Paint! A sophisticated shade with a few layers and textures can get us all through these phases. We can do it! I have faith in us! 😂

I saw a study that said that families who had regular dance parties had kids who were less aggressive, more creative, better listeners, and had closer relationships with their siblings and parents. So… I guess that makes my mirror ball adorned kitchen with a counter-turned-dancefloor pretty genius, right? We love it, and we actually use it all the time. I highly recommend joy-inducing design!

For me, design is hands-on. I want every piece—but especially the parts my guests will interact with most—to feel thoughtful, custom and effective. Integrated sinks and beautiful stonework were a must, even if I had to personally DRAW every detail for my contractors. The result is more than worth it.

Yes, that’s me! Well, the 90’s coming back in

Yes, that’s me! Well, the 90’s coming back in full force was definitely NOT on my bingo card for 2024, and yet, @esprit has just opened up a new store in Venice Beach! I remember when my mom would go get these posters out of the store when they changed them for the next season. Who would have ever thought they would be relevant today?! Such a full circle moment.
